that the Chinese Government have already prohibited
the import of foreign silver coins into China,
and possibly this has caused the influx of Mexican
dollars into Hong Kong. Prohibition of the import
of specie is not such a usual expedient as
prohibition of export, but was apparently necessary
in the special circumstances of Hong Kong. It
can hardly be maintained indefinitely, and we can
only hope that it will be possible to remove it
when action is taken on the recommendations of the
Currency Committee.
